Doeman, ‘From My Soul to Yours’
From a cultural perspective, Doeman, a young Mexican from southeast Houston, stands out. No discredit to any Mexican artists in Houston, but Doeman’s music distinguishes itself from the rest. Following his 2016 Barrio God and O.B.E. (Outer Body Experience), Doeman’s latest album, From My Soul To Yours, includes interludes from Doeman’s mom and Tupac wherein “Dodi” gives his fans an intimate project. Doeman sticks to his guns without any generic mumble rap or trap music. Instead his music is purely motivational, consistently producing an aggressive flow, demanding the respect he deserves, and containing real bars composed of metaphors and punch-lines giving you that nostalgic 90s hip hop feel that we have all been waiting for. Just listen carefully to tracks like, ‘Ro$e Gold’, ‘The One’ and ‘The Dreamer’ for example and you can hear and feel how hungry the young artist is.
As I listened to the album on repeat for days (‘Ro$e Gold’, ‘The One’, ‘Mexican Executive’, ‘The Dreamer’ and ‘5w’ my favorite tracks) I couldn’t help but feel that this specific project meant a lot more to the young artist. So, I asked him and his response echoes his literal lyrical outpouring, “From My Soul To Yours means exactly what the title states. I put my soul on a record praying yours would accept it. Back was against the ropes; we had to make a move and make them believe again.” While some of his lines are metaphorical, some get straight to the point such as, “The mexicano that’s moving like el soprano Top selling vato SPM inside of his prime hoe”, from Mexican Executive, – a bold statement but there’s no doubt that Doeman has the talent and aspirations to become the next mainstream Houston based Mexican artist that H-Town has been anxiously anticipating since South Park Mexican.
