Breona Micole\u2019s latest release \u2018Burning Bridges\u2019<\/a> off of her first album \u2018Metanoia\u2019<\/a>\u2014which is defined as; The change in one\u2019s way of life resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion\u2014was written at a phase in the singer\u2019s life when she was facing her own metanoia of sorts.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the time, I was in school taking classes at Texas Southern and I was in between the phase of trying to work, go to school and do music. Because so much was going on, I kind of took a break from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A strong believer in the power of positive energy, the singer says it’s essential to gaining inspiration, \u201cEnergy is everything to me. I have always been the type of person who can pick up on people\u2019s energy, I can feel it. I\u2019d rather be surrounded by positive people with great energy who all share the same vision.\u201d<\/p>\n

For that shared energy and vision,\u00a0 she would enlist Ben Wade to produce one track and B.R.U.C.E W.A.I.N.E for the remainder of her ‘Metanoia’ project.<\/p>\n

\u201cBelieve it or not, even though its only seven songs, I started writing it about a year and a half before I released it, and a lot of the earlier songs like \u2018Collision\u2019 and \u2018Burning Bridges<\/a>\u2019 came during a period of time when I was going through a lot of phases. I found inspiration while I was going through those phases and that\u2019s how a lot of the songs were written.\u201d<\/p>\n

After stepping away from her project for nearly three months she was able to clear her mind enough to tap back in to her true creative process which the song-writer says is, \u201cWhat I feel at that moment\u201d other times, \u201cI\u2019ll find inspiration out of nowhere. I just pretty much write about what I go through. Inspiration for me just falls out the sky sometimes, I just call it a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breona has spread her creative inspiration beyond her own work; she’s also credited as co-producer on the intro track ‘SunRise’ from H-Town Rap Battle Champion Buddieroe’s<\/a> latest project, \u2018SunRise Over Briargate.\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n

Breona says that a reminder of a promise she made to herself after finishing her project continues to motivate her. \u201cI tell myself that every day you should be progressing. Whether that\u2019s writing a song or writing a script or whatever. You need to be doing something.\u201d<\/p>\n

She credits that drive to a few things, \u201cMy drive is to not only make a better life for myself but to tell my story and inspire people. I always want to leave a piece of myself for the world to see even when I\u2019m dead and gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the biggest struggles Breona would have to endure to find that voice to tell her story would be learning herself to love and accept her own vocal talent.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy voice to me used to be very annoying,\u201d she admits, \u201cFor so long I didn\u2019t believe that I was great.\u201d<\/p>\n

She credits self-belief with leading her to finding appreciation for her talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to believe in yourself, people are going to believe in you but you have to believe in yourself first. You have to believe that you can do whatever it is you were set on this earth to do. You have to believe in what you do and in your craft.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to a point to where I said \u2018This is what God gave me even if I don\u2019t like where I\u2019m at now, I understand that I have to work on that and I have to constantly water my seeds every day.\u2019 Now I love my voice because I realized it\u2019s something that God gave to me and I started believing in my powers and I started believing in my gifts and abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked what advice she would give to fellow creatives trying to expose the world to their talent she says, \u201cThe bible says it best: Your gifts will make room for you. So, once you feed into your gift and you believe that you can do it, you will be amazed at what kind of doors he will open for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breona\u2019s next stop will be performing at the fourth annual Women Fuck Shit Up Fest (WFSU)<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n
